Sans Digital announced a new ultra high capacity rackmount storage server called the EN872W+BXE, that managed to catch our attention this afternoon. The 8U 72-bay rockmount storage device supports up to 216TB of total disk space for both network sharing and iSCSI connectivity. This is obviously aimed at enterprise users that want to use up to 72 hard drives all in a single 8U rackmount unit. To maintain optimal performance, the EN872W+BXE utilizes the latest a pair of Intel Xeon Quad-Core processors and has four built-in Gigabit Ethernet ports with a 10G networking upgrade option. This massive storage server uses three 1200MHz RAID processors and hard drive failures are protected by your choice of RAID 1, 3, 5, 6, 10 30, 50 and 60. Sans Digital EN872W+BXE Rackmount Server




Based on the same platform as the existing EliteNAS series, the EN872W+BXE provides 72 hard drive bays in one single 8U rackmount platform. The unique physical structure of having 48 HDD bays in the front and 24 bays in the rear allows a total 72 bays in one single 8U form factor with sufficient cooling for the all the HDDs. Supporting the latest 3TB SATA and SAS hard drives, the EN872W+BXE allows up to 216TB in total raw storage capacity, making it the highest capacity NAS storage unit in the EliteNAS series. Designed with three built-in expansion ports, the EN872W+BXE is capable of expanding up to 360 drives or 21 more EliteSTOR JBOD units for a maximum of 1080TB (1.08PetaByte) in total storage capacity.
